Statement on ULEZ

I welcome today’s news that the Mayor of London has significantly extended the ULEZ scrappage scheme. This is a huge step forward towards easing the impact of ULEZ on people’s pockets while promising clean air for all.

This now means that all Londoners with a non-compliant car will be eligible for support (from August 21st). This is the most generous vehicle scrappage scheme of its kind in the UK and will make a huge difference to residents across Enfield and London.

My concern now lies with the Conservative Government. The Mayor is investing an additional £50m in the scrappage scheme pot, bringing the total to £160m. Yet not a penny is coming from the government.

How can the government support other clean air zones in cities across the UK but not in London?

This needs to change. Let’s prioritise clean air over politics.
